Thank you very much, Violene, for the information.

Colonial Exhibitions (I)
The 1937 Colonial Exhibition - Paris

During the colonial era, France used to hold exhibitions to glorify the empire. Stamps and postcards publicizing the exhibitions were issued in France and for use in the colonies (omnibus issues).

Here is a set and SS issued to publicize the Colonial Exhibition held in Paris in 1937:

Colonial Exhibitions (II)
The 1931 Colonial Exhibition - Paris

To publicize the international colonial exhibition held in Paris in 1931, an omnibus set was issued for use in French colonies. Here is the set issued for French Indochina on April 13, 1931; Note the first stamp with a design that I sure today would considered racist:

"France brings civilization to the colonies":

"Leconte de Lisle": Passenger liner built at La Ciotat that entered service in 1923 on the Messageries Maritimes service to the Indian Ocean as Leconte de Lisle. From 1934 the ship also served on the route to Indo-China:

To publicize the 1931 colonial exhibition, France issued in 1930 a set of four identical design stamps shows African woman designed in Art Deco style. Here is one stamp of 40c. used on postcard sent from Montpellier, France to Villeneuve-les-Beziers, France:

Where is the extra cent? I see two 37c, four 1c and a 20c, so should 98c in postage...

Seems I am out of my mind in the last day since I did two mistakes in two different threads, maybe I need a rest. Yes, it is 98 cent and it is extra payment as the French inscription on the bottom states "affranchie par expediteur" meaning "postage applied by sender", which indicates that the nominal values of the stamps were higher than the actual rate of the postage, as seen usually in philatelic covers.

I just started sorting my Indo-China stamps, preparing to mount them on Steiner pages. I don't really have much to add to this thread, but I did run across this booklet pane, which I haven't seen yet.

It is listed as Scott 155a, but for some reason my catalog doesn't list a value.

Anyway, I haven't gotten it mounted yet, so fresh off the scanner it is.

Oh wow!

I'm guessing though, that mine would be considerably less with hinge remnants and some toning. But I'm good with that.

My Scott is from 2006, so I wonder when they added a relative value?

Thanks for the added information Billsey.

I'll be making a Steiner clone page for it this evening, as I've just started mounting my collection.

Nice pane with Harrow perf.
First time seen, I guess part is missing (staples or string area)
Same price in Scott 2017
Why a block of 5, and not six, I wonder.

With 5 stamps, the cost would be 30c vs 36c? The US issued booklets of 5 rather than 6 with a label in the 6th space?
