Looks perfectly OK to me Katchem_ash.

Indeed, it might be a bit better than OK. These stamps were printed on laid paper - it has a 'watermark' of closely spaced parallel lines. Your copy seems to have the laid lines horizontal.

If so, it's a nice find. These stamps on horizontal laid paper are about ten times less common than on vertical laid paper.

Your stamp looks to be from the right hand end of the sheet (which was a horizontal strip of 12 stamps).

I agree, too: these may be 'Uglies', but your stamp, Jhalawar SG 2, is far from ugly I've always thought it was a very attractive design. And so what if the printing is a little rough? These were local people, doing the best they could with limited resources, and not bothering to try to mulct the poor old long-suffering collector. So take that, Spock

I am aware the intelligentsia all name this design
a Nymph, or Apsara.
However because of an early mis-identification,
I shall always see this as a "Whirling Dervish".

You know, I was just looking back to page 1 of this thread, and what did I see? Bahawalpur. It's a sad thing that these were allowed to become stamps they dont fit in the Uglies thread.

I'm not sure how much of a sacrifice that is, Young Spock. As I remarked, Bahawalpur is now part of Pakistan; all the other stamps on Page 1 are still from India ...

And - just as a matter of interest - what are you going to do about Las Bela?

I take it you'll allow some Jaipur in

but what about those ugly surcharges?

And I suppose you'd allow in this 1 Rupee

SG 15

but how about the surcharged version?

SG 33b (and yes, it is a different shade)
