Thanks, aan09, but you're a bit too kind about the quality of the material I've been showing! |

Thanks indeed, aan09, but I think you're a little too kind about the quality of my stamps! |

These are words of generosity , but it is true fact you have been spreading knowledge across with finest available uglies .
Cheers

Not yet, Thomas, but we've had a public holiday in Victoria. Everything, including the mail, slows to a crawl. Should turn up in the next few days. |

Ok, so I'm not posting, but that doesn't mean I've not been trying to absorb pearls of wisdom. Thanks Tony. There is interest, but I'm a little "fractured" right now trying to get organized. I know I can come back for "assistance" when required... and I do want you, and all the others to know the information on SCF is PRICELESS. Maybe we can make a commercial. :) B |

Thanks to both of you, Duarte and Barb, and to all the others who have contributed to this thread. And really, there isn't any need to fear the Indian States! We're here to help you sort out most of the conundrums. And if we can't help, well, it probably wasn't worth knowing anyway |

Thomas, the Raja has landed at last, after circling Melbourne for a while. He's in excellent shape, and far too good for that stuff I sent you. I'll have to look for something to make up |

Mine turned up a while ago, thanks Thomas, a little embarassing, I need to post the cover so you can explain it to me, and so I can do a write up on my page.

Thomas, while cleaning behind my filing cabinet just now, I found this - one of the clandestine overprints smuggled out of the printers at Nasik. The gum is heavily toned, but if you could make use of it, you can have it. |

Plateflaw, your timing was impeccable: I was just about to tackle plating some Wadhwan I picked up on ebay. As far as I can see, your stamp is probably from Stone III. It has the stone flaw 'hairline joining H and A of HALF' and the dot to the left of the central shield, which make it Row 4/3 of this Stone. To help confirm the identification, which direction does the paper mesh run? Horizontally or vertically? Stone III should be horizontal. If you want to take plating (or should we say 'stoning'?) Wadhwan further, the India Study Circle handbook The Stamps of Wadhwan, by Ray Benns, is excellent. Copies turn up on ebay occasionally. (In Benns' classification, your stamp is #8 if on thin paper and #9 if on medium.) |
