Quote: Thulam 108,if I am not mistaken that's 1932. That's how I read it, just add 824 to the digits. I wonder if there is a searchable calendar online, for Malabar and Gregorian dates? I have Thu (THULAM) as Libra, and 14 Thu as around November 30th, basically guessing here. Your cover boasts a Boxed Registered Type V, 38 x 17mm to 41 x 19mm Dr Moos Page 135 |

Quote: I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting another board link here I think that learning and quoting other sites, like stampworld and big blue, is welcomed and educational, especially since you shared your source. Anyhow, that site isn't banned here. |

You are an absolute genius with searching ability Perf 12 That link will make my Travancore Pmks so much more enjoyable. Thank you. PS: 1 was 1 day out, 29th November 1932
Nope, perhaps 1 month out. I need to study more, the Malayalam date is confusing seems to indicate Thu 3 1108 I am missing something here. I am deciding on October 30th |

Hyderabad stamp of 1900 one quarter annaPractically every stamp was retouched after the die had been stamped. Many retouch varieties. There were 2 Plates of 96 stamps. (16 horiz. x 6).In general Plate I types are more distinct (neater).Plate II types have many worn lines and elements of the design. There are dozens of design Irregularities in these stamps.Re-entries,smudged printings, shades of blue. Stamps4Life: Nice book. |

ok, having trouble w/ color and SG no. and looking for opinions... I have these 4, SG Type 1, Travancore, 1ch. They are all 12x12. All seem to be Type O 1 or O 2 Overprint according to height and looks, except the bottom right stamp has a skinny left S. The bottom right might be type O 7 but is too short... Help in SG no. please. This is killing me! |

Travancore is never easy in my experience, take in small doses, esp with shades and Wmks !
We really need Joy to come tell us what is what. ..or Tony. Even Gibbons can err.
I'll check out my collection for the opts.
Nice Pmk on one of yours ETTAMANUR Ti number 43.

Here are my examples. What we need to know, is, how were they overprinted ? and was the carmine ink, fugitive? Having a clear opt in carmine is almost impossible, maybe from soaking? maybe ink. Look at bottom left for an extreme example. All formats look similar, but impressions, serifs change drastically. Whilst it appears frustrating, the stamps are the truth, and indicate the Kerala Post at the time. We have to deal with it. Not a clear Postmark in sight. |

Stamps4Life---- I only see Type O1 ovpt's. (13mmm wide) in your stamps. The 2nd stamp has an inverted 'S' at left. The main difficulty is the colors;SG O5 (Chalky Blue),SG 020 (Grey-Blue),SG 020a (Deep Blue). |

Hi rod - thanks for posting your sheet.... Very helpful to see colors. You are right - take this area in small doses - not a spot for newcomers like myself! I may pack these up for now and get to more modern India for a bit or better yet , start sorting a big bag of kiloware. Yes, that postmark is pretty , right on the center - Tks for the ID. If I can't figure out these SG numbers, I may just lump them in the album. But the OCD part of me is going nuts..... |

The only reason I thought there might be a different overprint is that on the bottom right one, the S seems different even thought all the widths are 13 mm or very close as best I can tell. Maybe paper shrinkage too?? I did not notice the inverted S. Going to revisit that one. And yes the colors are killing me. Haha. As noted, there seemed to be not a big authority on using constant colors, overprints and papers in this area - at least seems to me.. Very challenging. |
