Mexico Stamp Identification

Does anybody recognizes this early 2 cent mexican stamp, I can't seem to find in catalog. Thanks for the help

The handwriting on it may mean it is a revenue stamp. not listed in Scott

so what does that mean it was never meant to be sold or issued why would a stamp not appear with a scott # what would something like this be worth

A revenue stamp is not used for postage, just for tax purposes. You might find it listed in www.stampworld.com or just google "Mexico revenue stamps".

Believe Peter4522 is correct. That is, it is likely the stamp your posted was used in either revenue or fiscal service.

Typically there are revenue or fiscal speciality stamps. However, there are instances where postage stamps can be employed as fiscal stamps as well.

There is a wealth of info available in the SCF archives as well as various speciality philatelic groups such as The Revenue Society (UK).

Also recommend checking with MEPSI.

Looks like it depicts Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla.

That was my guess too, but the Forbin image tended to show a Moustache ?
I wasn't game to commit.

thank you to everyone for helping with identifying the stamp as for revenue usage. But I really think its purpose was for postage due because it has overprinting " Mexico D. P. " would it possibly be for "postage due 25 cent" since in Spanish you put the verb before the noun?
