i could use some help. Im basically a pre-war coollector of trains.coins and ww1 propaganda posters. I have a lionel box from the cmpany with a 5 cent Roosevelt stamp dated February 32. I researched and saw that some are collectable and some not so much. Could someone give me advice, Thanks, Joe

From your description (more photos would be nice) the stamps are attached to a mailing box. Stamps still on the item mailed are usually worth more than the stamps by themselves. Now in your case there is a big plus and a moderate negative.

The plus is that the stamps and box are complete and intact (again more photos) so that they, as a unit, are more attractive to a stamp collector.

The negative is that not all collectors like dimensional objects as they are a bit harder to store in ones collection. Specifically they don't mount well on a stamp or postal history album page.

I would welcome seeing a couple of photos of the entire mailing. I am also one of those collectors you would want if you were selling this as I collect mailed merchandise items including dimensional items and also have a choo-choo/Lionel interest such I would welcome it into my collection.

That said, I am of the opinion you have no interest in having the item leave your collection. So what you need to do is store the item in a manner that does not allow for the stamps to be damaged while on the package.

Now if you post a photo or type the to and from addresses in a post here, I will describe the mailing for you as to weight and other details.

sc12, You should change the title to the thread to indicate that they are precancels. Chances are that a precancel expert will chime in and give you better advise
