Twenty years ago or so, I had the privilege of hearing Gary Ryan of Great Britain talk at the Collectors Club of New York. Gary Ryan had achieved the distinction of Large Golds in many different classes at the International Level. He told us Americans that we were very fortunate that revenues had not been dropped out of the Scott Specialized Catalog like they had been in most foreign countries. The result was that dealers in those countries knew nothing about revenues and did not include them in their inventories. American dealers had access to that information about all the back of the book categories and many dealers carried this material as a result. In those other countries information about revenues was not developed and only finally in the 1990's were collectors beginning to assemble the forgotten and never known information in country revenue catalogs. The Scott US Specialized Catalogue is the gateway to an enormous amount information, regardless of whether it is hard copy or digital. Although I abandoned postage stamp collecting more than two decades ago, I frequently have need to access the postage stamp portions of the catalogue! Traditionally they were printed by the same people and the information in one part of the catalogue frequently provides insights to the stamps listed in another part of the catalogue! Keep them together!!
Hi Everyone Just a thought, I am also a revenue collector, and I would love to see one day if someone would come out with a catalogue just for revenues, but since it has never happened, I just take a Scott's classsic catalogue, take out all the revenue pages, then take them over to any printer [i.e Office Depot] and have them bind it, now I got my own catalogue of revenues and take that to a stamp show. This works for me! Again just a thought! Paul
