I bought an item off eBay USA and it is being sent to me here in magic Oz. Expected date of arrival is in June so about 6 weeks or so.

Purchased on 23 April and the seller sent it off right away. So far it has been 12 days and managed to move from Connecticut to Kentucky via New Jersey and Ohio.

It has been sitting in Kentucky now for 9 days!!

A previously purchased item in the USA also had some weird movements from Texas to Kentucky to Chicago and then to Los Angeles where it sat for over two weeks. It then got lost in the 'ether' for a a couple of weeks and then showed up in Oz. It then took two weeks to get from Sydney to Melbourne.

So far here is the actual tracking of the item;

https://parcelsapp.com/en/shops/ebay That is an app that may be of help if things get sticky with what you see when you go to eBay. I was sending a large envelope to England back in January. For starters USPS lost the tracking on the item after it supposedly left Cincinnati. Their assumption was that it had reached Erlanger but that I should check with the recipient. I didn't even try that after getting a run around on the phone one day from eBay. I never saw anything in tracking after that and finally checked the number using the app above. The package had arrived in England safely and they showed all the intermediate stops even after arriving in England. Good luck with your items. I had luck back before Covid using eBay's overseas shipping to the UK. But now they're not much better than the post office.
PS The last item I shipped did go from Miwaukee to Cincinnati to Erlanger and back to Chicago before heading for Canada. And took over 3 weeks to do it!

John,

Thanks for that link.

I'll use it to track the item. I'll check on it in another week or so.

Things must be really messed up with the mail from the USA to Australia. Last letter from the USA to Australia took exactly one month to get here.

I am still waiting on another letter from the USA and it has been 40 days now.

With our every other day residential mail service here in Oz which was implemented because of all the lock downs/virus crapola mail delivery takes longer. Even with everything here almost back to normal, the mail service delivery schedules haven't reverted to normal.

If I don't get the letter on Friday this week then the next mail delivery won't be until Tuesday.

Airmail packages from Japan to Oz are running about two weeks and sea mail large packages are running about 6 weeks..............

Well, the item arrived in Illinois at the end of April and hasn't moved since.

13 days just sitting there now.

In 20 days the item has managed to move about 1300 kilometers and still hasn't left the USA.

Last time I ever buy anything on eBay that uses the 'Global Shipping Program'.

eBay lost me as a seller with their move to the managed payments system (not that I sold that much anyway) and this fiasco with the Global Shipping Program will make sure that I never buy anything with that type of shipping again.

It sounds like Illinois is the black hole for international mail these days. I have a registered envelope coming from India that arrived at the International Service Center in Chicago on April 29th and has not shown any movement since then.

erilaz That seems to be par for ISC Chicago these days. The last registered letter from Latvia to here in Milwaukee that went thru there took just a little over 3 weeks to clear them. Hang in there.

Yep, a little over three weeks does seem to be the norm. My registered letter that arrived at ISC Chicago on April 29th was just processed through Indianapolis this morning. It remains to be seen when it will reach me in California.

"Last time I ever buy anything on eBay that uses the 'Global Shipping Program"

I absolutely refuse to use GSP. I have lost multiple customers over the horrendous charges that were levied on items. People could just not understand why "I" was charging so much for shipping. Only benefit was when they took control of a package they were responsible for it even if it got lost.

I sent a package to Puerto Rico at end of December ( turns out on the worst day to send it ). It sat at the regional USPS facility 5 miles from my house in a container for count em' - 3 months. It finally showed up in tracking in FL one day in early April and was subsequently delivered. Thanks to my customer for his extreme patience - I kept him informed as best I could and he waited it out.

Hopefully things will get better.

Rich

Don't expect speed out of ISC. The customs folks in Chicago have been taking over 3 weeks to do their job(whatever that is). As far as USPS making sense good luck figuring them out.

Perhaps this helps explain some of the delays. Please try and ignore the political content. I could find no other articles that went in-depth into the AED issue.

It finally arrived at my front door on May 24th.

Today I got some phone cards that I bought from a Delcampe seller in Greece. 78 days in transit, and since the envelope had no tracking, I have no idea where it was delayed for so long.

Update on my package:

The package finally made it out of the USA and arrived in Australia on the 20th of May.

Remember that date: 20 May.

I don't know when it left the USA or where it was for a number of days as the tracking just said "arrived..." without any identifying information.

What is even more interesting is that I got a message from Australia Post on the 15th of May stating that it would be delivered in three business days. (Really???)

Well checking the tracking every day since the 20th and seeing no change, I finally put in a missing item notice with Australia Post yesterday.

Today I was contacted and had to provide additional information to Australia Post.

After providing that information they responded by telling me what I already knew: their is no additional information about the package after 20 May.

It has sat in Sydney (somewhere) for almost two weeks and Australia Post has no idea where the parcel is.

Australia Post stated that I should contact the sender in the USA for resolution!!!

So I sent back an email and asked them why should I contact the sender in the USA when they had the package in their possession on the 20th of May and now don't know where it is at.

No response so far. I don't expect one either.

The sender sent off the item the same day I bought it on the 23rd of April. It took until the 20th of May to get to Australia. It has now sat in Sydney for almost two weeks and Australia Post doesn't know where the package is at.

The sender did a good job. Every other intermediary in the chain was pathetic and as usual Australia Post is the worst. They lost the package.

So on Monday which is the last date estimated for arrival I will have to file an "Item not received" action with eBay/PayPal and forward them the Australia Post email.

Ridiculous.

And of course we in Melbourne are now in our 4th lockdown which was extended by another week today which meant that stamp auction I had been getting ready for last weekend was cancelled. (The same club also had their annual auction cancelled last year around the same time too!!) and the auction coming up on Saturday may or may not be cancelled, but I can't attend as the venue is more than 10 kilometers from where I live. Ten kilomters being the new distance we are 'allowed' to travel for one of the 'five' reasons.

I'd like to know how they came up with the scientific evidence that 5 kilomters was the limit to travel and not 4 or 3.5 or 2 or 6 or now 10?

LOL!

The same way some they came up with these gems:

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued a draconian order that not only required most businesses to close, but also:
forced hardware stores, which were allowed to remain open, to close off the parts of their stores that sold carpet, flooring, furniture, garden supplies, and paint;
disregarded businesses' free speech rights by prohibiting them from advertising or promoting any goods other than "groceries, medical supplies, or items that are necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation, and basic operation of residences";
banned motorboats, jet skis, and other watercraft, while allowing the use of kayaks, canoes, and sailboats; and
prohibited residents from traveling to a second home or a vacation rental.
Vermont Governor Phil Scott announcedthat no one may gather with anyone from another household—even outdoors. He justified the ban because "you don't know what your neighbor has done." (He later amended the order to allow socially distanced walks with one other person.)
Villages in New York banned the use of leaf-blowers. According to the mayor of Sleepy Hollow, because of the COVID pandemic, blowing dust into the air "creates a HAZMAT situation." And in Croton-on-Hudson, the Village manager expressed "concern that the use of leaf blowers may be contributing to the spread of the virus although there is no scientific proof of this."
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker imposed a "no exceptions" mask mandate requiring everyone age 5 and older to wear masks in public, even when outdoors and socially distanced (or, presumably, alone).
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti banned all travel other than for essential activities, including "travel on foot, bicycle, scooter, motorcycle, automobile, or public transit." In other words, no unnecessary walking
The mayor of Louisville, Kentucky, banned drive-in church services for Easter. Fortunately, a federal judge put a stop to the ban, writing that the mayor's order was something "this court never expected to see outside the pages of a dystopian novel, or perhaps the pages of The Onion."
But it wasn't just the measures themselves that were troublesome. The enforcement of these new laws was also overzealous and absurd.

Police in Encinitas, California, cited 22 people for "watching the sunset" and "having picnics near the beach." Violations carry fines of up to $1,000 and up to six months in jail.
A 19-year-old woman in Pennsylvania was stopped by police and given a $200 ticket when she went for a drive—alone—"just to get out of the house."
In California, police chased down and arrested paddleboarders and surfers who went out in the ocean—socially distanced from anyone.
A man in Brighton, Colorado, was arrested for playing catch with his 6-year-old daughter on a near-empty softball field.

My SWAG is that most politicians have 5 fingers which is about as high as they can count using them so they came up with 'five kilometers'.

If they forgot the limit during a press conference all they would have to do was look at their hands.
