Yes, Roman States is an old term in English for the Papal possessions in Italy that Scott has maintained long past when it should have changed - Papal States or Papal State would be much better (Italian Stato Pontificio).
Not the only odd or obsolete naming convention that Scott contains to be sure. |

Tks - I thoroughly enjoy them, but they are fragile and I get, umm, a little tense every time I have to pull them down. As expected they are worn. I've been trying to figure out where to go from here... Subject of a different thread :) to be sure. |

I saw an extensive presentation of Roman/Papal States at a ASDA show in NYC several years ago. I am a world collector and always assumed the bright multi-shaded copies I had were knock-offs. I was stunned by the colors in the originals which are deep and vibrant. I am sure suspect shades exist in forgeries but I had to go back to consider all the copies in my possession which I had assumed were all forgeries because of the colors. |

Then 1889 Moens made his reprints, these are the stamps most likely to deceive the collector . Moens stamps come both imperforate and perf 12.The holes are small and irregular ,his stamps also come in various shades but are thinner paper than Usigli's |

wkusau Quote: I would look at Rhodesia and see if the Roman States share the last page. Ponta Delgata would be my next place to look. If there were a prize, you'd get it.... . Thank you. Look what I found in Part IV |

Don , apologies..... What happened the 1st time (your post) I looked is entirely my oversite due to being a novice... When I looked as a result of your post, I looked at Rhodesia and Nyasaland end page. Not realizing there was just Rhodesia listed also. Wm |
