Hi everyone!

I am glad to have joined such a lively forum for stamps.

Romanian collector here, but my focus is Finland, of which I have just completed my collection [1856-2011] at a basic level [at least one stamp per catalogue number], but am continuing with varieties and a study collection of the Russian models.

Apart from that, I do have some Romanian stamps, mostly pre-1947, as well as having contributed to the creation of post-2011 Stamps of Royal topics, as part of my job.

Recently, I have started a new collection: "the first series of every country", which is, quantity-wise, about half the way, but value-wise just one third, i.e. more Liechtenstein 1 than Romania 1. But, there is a life ahead to do it.

I would love to contribute, so drop me a line if you have questions regarding Romanian or Finnish stamps, and I thank everyone who is willing to help with my own questions.

Welcome!

I would love to see some pictures of either of those collections.

Thank you everyone for your nice welcome!

StatesmanStamper, for you I have Denmark nr. 1, for now [top row of the picture], which is actually why I joined the forum.

rod222, here are my humble suggestions:
1. I do not deal in unadopted essays. I believe that a stamp's meaning and value is given by its postal circulation, which is why I usually collect cancelled, and also why I do collect some circulated cinderellas / vignettes, if they can be shown to have been postmarked by the authorities. So, for me, the value is in the eyes of those who are looking for essays.

2. No English specialized Romania catalogue that I can recommend. As for MICHEL, I use the German versions for everything. I consider it generally good, with the following specific issues:
-> the so-called Romania occupation of Ukraine overprints, which are completely invented things, never made or circulated by the authorities;
-> they don't go too much into specials, such as the "Porto" [postmarks-that-want-to-be-overprints] applied in Moldova, and in the late 1940s during inflation, which are not mentioned.

3. What you sent is the present-day town of Viseu-de-Sus, spelled here VISAU-[probably DE-SUS].

4. Also no English catalogue for revenues.

To me, the best English resources are www.romanianstamps.com and www.revenues.ro .

From the links you sent, the oblong auxiliary marking "***sement" is most likely saying "VERSEMENT" = money has been sent.

FindlandPassion,

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. Russ

Barefoot exists, I have that one, but poor mimeographed pages.

I'll think I'll try the Michel.

Rod222 Those are absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
It's just that for me they aren't stamps but works of art or pieces of history. Taken as such, they more than justify their values.
