Since this is the 50th Anniversary of the United States Postal Service, the successor to the United States Post Office Department, I thought that readers might like to see the article that I placed with the Empire State Postal History Society in 2019 and 2020. My late philatelic friend Michael Peterson visited every post office in Essex County NY on July 1, 1971 to get a first day of existence cancel from the post offices. He also took photographs of each of the post offices. When he died I purchased a large postal history collection of Essex County material from his widow. The ESPHS articles are here:
