Here is one of my post card with "cross hatching" writing.
My question is the added red stamp on the post card that seems to have numbers "5" and possible "0" on it.
Any ideas..

Robert

I could give you a lot of educated guesses, but it would narrow the field a bit if you could also post the front of the card. Origin locations can give an abundance of information and also a date range.

It could range from a postal tax stamp, yet most countries had actual stamps for that, depending on time period. A early post mark locality stamp, however unlikely. If this was a person of note, it could be a family Initials stamp. Used to prove it was them sending the card. It could be a couriers stamp, to mark they carried the item and delivered it. Depending on how old it is, the recipient paid upon delivery. Most carriers or Postal Offices/Exchanges would stamp near the address not in the body of the message.

From reading the card it looks to be a simple family card of I made it to where I was going. Depending on time period, more peril involved then today, and no phone service. Which again brings us to location. I would venture a guess it's an Initials stamp. Meaning the senders initials. They use to use family seals with wax. Moving with the times and trying to look more noble than they are, or just upwardly mobile, initials stamp. IMHO,

I agree with StampHunting, seeing the other side might be useful. Guessing at a possible postal history connection without seeing an entire item's front and back is a fool's game.

Maybe the front of the card would help.
I will try to find it again, have to go downstairs and go through many, many and many boxes to find it...I will try.
