I'm not sure what you would call this re-entry, touch-up or whatever but to me it doesn't look like an ink pull.
However I'm pretty consistent at being wrong, any and all help would be appreciated.

Cheers, Bill

Looks like this is from the 2nd column. Could it be a "constant" engravers slip? Let us check.

Good question Jogil. I thought most of the 1969 stamps were combinations of engraving and photogravure or lithography, but my version but upon closer checking, the Bird series were printed by CBNC (not BABN) so it shows Lithography (no engraving) on the plate block inscription. That pretty much rules out engravers slip.....

Unitrade lists this as 4 colour lithography with a description of "black and multicoloured".

Not saying it is a possible re-entry but more of a scratch..Which would put it into the constant variety version.

I you can find another 2-3 more [With help from other collectors to} then send it to UNITRADE Editor for verification.

That was my immediate query.

Every time one is wrong, and accepts it, they move forward.
How boring would it be if we knew everything?

As the line is pure white (blank paper colour), it appears that it may be the result of something falling on the plate during printing and not a scratch or constant variety.

Hi Bill

There are a lot of things/oddities that can happen with printing of stamps.

Re-entry...probably not.
Scratch/variety/tail, could have caused the line..[Sorry, tail is what we used to call a line on a stamp when the ink gets dryer as the printing process continues]--[That is the term we/me used to call it when I was a printer]

Anyways the line is the same colour as the "5" on your stamp. Do some more investigating and you might have a variety as the one I found on a NFLD stamp..Good luck investigating.
Robert

I have 8 mint copies of this stamp, of which 6 are column 2. None have the white line or the tail on the 2.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to look and comment on this.
Blackjag you referred to a white line but when I see the oddity I see only a black line extending well beyond the parameters of what should be black.
I know nothing about lithography and being 70 not really ready to learn to a point where I could explain how it could occur.
Did read somewhere of an error that the printers called a "hickie or hiccup" I believe
I'll just keep this block and keep my eye out for more hopefully another will be found.

Again thanks to all,
Cheers, Bill
