For a correct answer, you will need to provide close up photos of the features which determine the stamp design types in play. Color is not reliable in computer images.
These areas appear to me to be watermarks. This issue is plagued by watermarks that only appear in bits and pieces at the edges of single stamps, and the suspected watermark locations are perfect examples of how that happens.
Have you actually checked for the watermarks using a watermark fluid or a lighter fluid? The spots you are referring to in the photo look like hinge marks to me.
