I know absolutely nothing about local posts and have no comparison stamps. Scott's Specialized makes a distinction on whether the great toe touches the frame (20L56) or it is raised (20L52/54). The illustrations in the catalog don't help. It's a perf 12. My working hypothesis is that it is a forgery. (If so, how can I tell?) I'm asking because it was given to me by a non-collector. If it is valuable (20L52) cat value $75 (2019 Scott) I will return it. I appreciate your eyes! Thanks in advance Dan

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example. I collect for enjoyment, not investment. APS Member #223433 Postmark Collectors Club Member #6333 Meter Stamp Society Member #1409 |

Thanks, Rod. I did a search before I posted. The Boyd stamps in that thread weren't identified in the detail I need and the images were too small to tell me where the toe is! Dan |

jconey, Thanks for the pointer. It looks like mine is a toe on the frame variety, 20L56 (CV $0.40), or a forgery. The paper doesn't look wove (but I'm no paper expert) so that seems to strengthen my original hypothesis of a reprint/forgery. Thanks! Dan |

I collect Boyd's and it is 20L56. Quite a few remainders exist, including full sheets. For a number of years after Boyd's stopped using stamps but continued to publish customized mailing label for businesses, they would enclose one of these with their letter in response to queries from stamp collectors and others. Rod222, Sorry I just saw your message about having trouble finding it. Glad Jill helped out.
Seigel's is a great help and at times I've used their catalogs for a variety of purposes.

Cheers Jc, that's OK, indeed a great resource, best I have seen. We here in Australia, have a similar resource, esp postmarks, at Prestige Philately.
