This is a four-page mini-exhibit that I prepared for my album after obtaining one of the covers in a GB bulk lot. I welcome any changes to the facts that are stated, and/or any suggestions for a philatelic item to go at the bottom of the fourth leaf, which is uncomfortably blank. A classic stamp design by David Gentleman.

Pandemonium? Not exactly. The whole thing was pretty low-key. This piece captures the mood well.

Many of the matches were poorly attended. I saw Italy v Russia at Roker Park, and had the honour of seeing Lev Yashin play. The ground was about half-full.

Our headmaster, "Nobby" Hall, boasted of having acquired a sheet of the England Winners stamp. I suppose he regretted it at leisure.

Nice presentation. I have no interest in soccer/football but I still enjoyed reading it and might have even learned something.

This is nit-picking, the last line in the first paragraph on the fourth page says ".....accounting from inflation......" should read "accounting for inflation".

As a fan since 1983 it was great to see this entry. It was especially nice to see homemade FDC. Always happy too talk football anytime. Contact me.

England host the World Cup and three modest stamps are issued. They win it and one more is issued.

Imagine this happening now. There'd be mountains of the things, with souvenir sheets, booklets, presentation packs galore going on for months.

Aside from Italy in 1934, a single stamp had been the norm. The 1966 stamps were a poor design, but at least there were only three. The 2012 Olympic stamp overkill was remarkable.
