I recently came in contact with a young guy in Harrisburg PA who has a large collection / accumulation of pre-1930 U.S. stamps, most from the 1800's and he stopped counting at 35,000 stamps but was probably 3/4s or more of the way through. He was looking for someone who can appraise them and potentially help him liquidate the collection. He is not a collector but of course has wild estimates as to the value.
The collection/accumulation stops at 1933, or at least what this guy has of it.
He acquired them from a business partner as partial payment for a debit owned. He and his father have tried to identify some of the stamps and think they are high value pieces. I have not seen or examined them yet.
Mystic has been jerking him around and he's been contacted by Noble but doesn't know who to trust.
From photos he sent me last night, some of the pages look almost like circuit book pages in various states of population. The name Clarence Whitmoyer and his address in Bloomsburg PA is at the top of some of the pages. I found obits for a couple of guys that it could be.
I was hoping someone here might know a little bit about Clarence and his "collection". Was he a collector, dealer, did he run an approval/circuit book, etc. I haven't found anything on the web yet.
