It's a privately perfed stamp, perhaps by sewing machine. Unlisted in the major Japanese catalogs AFAIK. We'd probably need a cover to identify the source of it. There also other private perfs/rouletting on other values as well as on the earlier (imperf) Earthquake series, plus on various imperf issues of other countries. |

Opinion: 2 yen Kiyomizu Temple, Kyoto.
A Forgery. (with question marks)
Not possible to ID genuine from forgery with colours. Genuine illustrate a far more clarity in the design.
The only problem I have is with the shading lines on the left gable, and the radiating lines from the Chrysanthemum crest
The stamp is a genuine vastly underinked example, or a forgery. The paper colour is white, the forgeries appear on a more whiter paper than the genuine, I cannot help in that regard.
No information on perforations, I have read to date.

Here are my 3 x Sc#367 Note the paper colour, mine are "creamy white" an indication of genuine paper colour, as a contrast to yours. The lines of the protruding Gables are clear and precise, as is the radiating lines of the Chrysanthemum. |

Quote: Fake stamp that passed and was legitimately canceled? Looks to be that way, but really lives in the "Possibility" hiearchy. One can never be sure until all possibilities exhausted. It may be another unproven fake cancellation. Stuff for the Japanese specialists / scholars. Note: The preforations appear by sewing machine or similar |

JapRev72, what is the actual color of you stamp? Is it bright carmine or is it orange/vermilion? And it the paper brilliant white or a slightly grayish/off--white color?
Meanwhile, bear in mind that 140 million of this value were printed. Makes it easy for collectors to select the sharpest prints to save. Google this stamp to see all the ways this has gotten scanned and also notice the dry prints and heavily inked prints including how the gable mentioned and other parts of the roof got printed.
With the dates are given for the forged cancels, what cancel types and cities are associated with each?

Thank you. Then I still believe this to be a privately perfed genuine stamp.
