I shall be posting up to 30 Cinderellas that are new to me.
Some are obvious, others not so.
I would welcome and gossip, news, subsidiary information about them
I can place on a page.

Thanks in advance:

Christchurch Piegon Post info from www.newzeal.com

CHRISTCHURCH PIGEON POST MINIATURE SHEETS
These sheets of four labels were issued by the Philatelic Foundation
Christchurch (Inc) to help raise funds to pay off the mortgage on their
stamp clubrooms situated in central Christchurch. These clubrooms are used
by all the Christchurch based philatelic societies or stamp clubs and are
now debt free thanks to these Pigeon Post sheets and several similar
ventures. Each year from 1978 to 1984 a sheet of four different labels
was issued and some of these each year were broken up and single labels
used on flimseys. These Flimseys are lightweight messages that pigeons
carry from a release point back to their loft. We offer here mint sheets
and used flimseys the latter of which are supplied inside special
envelopes with an extra label affixed on the outside.

All issued from 1978-84.

"Machine test" - they're test stamps. Very nice ones, I might add. This site includes a number of scans of these stamps.

Mentioned elsewhere on the same site is the following tidbit about the Austrian State Printing Office:

"The OSD is known throughout the world for its excellent stamp production. In the course of time, about 60 postal administrations have commissioned the OSD to produce stamps for them. Therefore it is perhaps not surprising that the series "1000 years of Austria" won the first prize of the 8th Government Postage Stamp Printers Conference (in Rome) in 2000 and, at the same time, the award "Stamp of the Century". "

I have some more Austrian testing labels
so I'll post them next to keep on topic.
Thanks again.

Can anyone identify the chap on the test label?

I have duplicates of the violet and of the printing house
free if anyone cares to have them. (2 labels only)

I certainly agree there, and Austria produces lovely clear postmarks to boot. They set the standard.
Years ago, when I was on a mining site in the North of WA, a
colleague drew this amazing picture, of a mountain of boulders,
and when you looked closely, each had a human face.

This stamp from Austria does the same thing, I find it fascinating how the artist has achieved a spectacular result with Don Quixote.
