...makes me wonder if the market has hit its ceiling. Of course, it could be the high starting asks in tandem with their 20% buyer's premium, but the amount of "passes, its available" so far is noteworthy if not a bit worrisome. I do love the auctioneer's voice along with her Texan drawl. Hubba, Hubba...LOL...

I usually fish this pond. Like Kellehers bids have to go through SAN so I quit. On their website I don't see where the bid stands or if a bid is entered, only the "recommended" price. There are so many options to spend cash, no sense in bemoaning one less. Some of Their recommended prices are high in my opinion. The Wells Fargo collection was intriguing. Oh well.... |

Took a look at the US and agree that the openings are high. Very high. The WW lots seem to be much more realistic. At least I hope so because I have my eye on three lots tomorrow. |

I was able to grab a decent US 116 used with a fancy cancel. A little shy on a couple of perf teeth, but it spoke to me so into my cancels album it goes.
Got outbid on a handful of W-F's :(
Lottsa passes today, too, especially on the German covers, |

Wow, you all were right. Sooo many passed lots. The most I have ever seen. I got my lot but there is a rub and I plan to speak with Golden Oak about it.
I thought that I would miss the live auction and so I went against my policy and placed a bid on SAN. The lot price was at it's original opening of $130 when I went to enter my bid of $160. I hit the enter key and the opening immediately shot up to $160. Say what? That makes no sense to me based upon all of my previous experience. It is not a SAN issue, it is a Golden Oak issue. SAN just lists the data given to them. I thought of calling Golden Oak and asking them what the deal was but did not really have the time. If they tapped danced I would have pulled my bid and never darkened their doorway again. Am I overreacting? |

1st bidder bid $150 and it showed as $130, your bid topped his $150 and showed as $160? |

I got the 304, I'm trying to get them all mint xf, lh in that series. Who cares about the back. Ha. Surprised had a few bidders on it actually.
I also picked up that 69 vf/xf used which I was missing. Yeah high starting prices, airmail blocks continue their slide, $160 only for the c4 plate block of 6 xf. Typically you at least get catalogue for xf. |

Quote: 1st bidder bid $150 and it showed as $130, your bid topped his $150 and showed as $160? Ken - You could be right but I have a hunch. There was another firm on SAN that used to open at whatever number you threw in. Opening at $200 and you punch in $1,000, BAM, the opening is now $1,000. Golden Oak's T&C's are "fuzzy" as to how they deal with bids. Golden Oak: Quote: The highest bid acknowledged by GOOA shall prevail. Should a dispute arise between bidders GOOA alone shall determine who the successful bidder is and whether to reoffer the lot in dispute. Should a dispute arise after the sale, GOOA's records shall be conclusive. On all lots sold, a commission of 20% on the hammer price is payable by the buyer to GOOA together with any sales and use tax or customs duties. Talk about loose as a goose. No "lot shall sell at one increment above...." or "in the event of a tie...." and so on. Live and learn. |

I was interested in an auction with terms like that, I tried to get a straight answer and couldn't so I just moved on.
I was bidding in the last Kelleher auction and I passed on an item and was thanked for passing and the next thing I know the higher bidder withdrew their bid and I was the winner. Auctions can get crazy!! |

Wshuwahere77 - What struck me right away was not the spacing but how perfectly round the perf holes were. And the perf tips are just so straight and clean. My money is on a reperf. Be certain to notify Golden that you wish to place the stamp on extension. |

re 304: Talk to Golden Oak before you even pay for it. Have them look at it. You may be able to avoid the hassle of extensions, returns, refunds, etc. |
