Of course, buy a scanner, employ a good text string regime.

The Stamps2Go Assistant is decent, and fairly robust. It is an offline database that you can grab at the following URL:

https://www.stamps2go.com/

Look for the download link about half-way down the page.

Totally free...

Is it? Do you know for sure that they will never trade/sell/ or otherwise share your info or transaction information with others? I see nothing in their T&Cs which precludes this and this data has significant value (either now or if they ever sold the company).

Hi Don,

Well, Stamps2Go, as you know, is a stamp selling venue. Would you ask the same questions of eBay, Amazon, Delcampe, etc.?

I get a lot of spam emails from Delcampe, for example.

How are we to escape these intrusions in our life?

I'm 65 years old, and I could give one twit about such things... Life is too short

Others are free to care deeply about such issues...

The registration of the software is free, the software is free, it is virus free, and obviously, the use of it - off line, is free. The software is productive for the stated need. It is a viable solution.

There are plenty of members here who have used Stamps2Go to sell their duplicate stamps (or buy stamps they need) - I don't recall many complaints.

I mentioned it as a viable option - which it is.

Understood, but your promoted the site as being 'totally free'. The other venues you mention have T&Cs which let users know what they do and do not do with user information.

My point is that there are many folks, especially in this hobby, which have little or no understanding that their info is being sold. Facebook is touted as being 'free', people use the term 'Google' as a verb ("go Goggle that stamp"). These companies peddle our personal information and they literally make billions on it. And yes, I ask the same questions of all websites.

Some folks may be like you and not 'give one twit about such things'. That is fine but many other may actually care who has their information and how it is being used. Please note that this is not about 'spam email', it is about much, much more.

A 'totally free' site is a very rare bird. Very few people run websites by donating their time and digging into their own pockets to cover the significant annual costs. A site is not free if it is selling your information by any definition other than an uninformed one. Folks can certainly chose to ignore that their personal info is being sold by a website, but it should be an informed decision.

As someone that was (is) the victim of identity theft this year I very much care about my information being used (monetized or not) without my knowledge. Even the most innocuous seeming info can be used to flesh out your personal profile or build a mirror ID for bad purposes.

I will also veer off topic and warn people to be diligent and proactive as best you can with safeguarding your info. Guaranteed that every single person on this forum has at least some of their info available on the Dark Web for bad actors to utilize.

In my case I have a monitoring service provided by the Government after the OPM hack by China and know that my info in some way, shape or form has been stolen in over 100 data breaches and hacks in the past ten years. From Marriot hotels to online retailers to banks the intrusions are widespread and numerous.

Always proceed on the assumption that your info WILL be accessed.

Just a simple example, here is a short list of companies with which PayPal shares user data.***

Payment processors (Bank of America, Wells Fargo, American Express, JPMorgan Chase, India's Chargebee, Russia's VTB24, Pakistan's Bank Alfalah Ltd., and others)

Auditors (PricewaterhouseCoopers, KPMG and others)

Credit companies (Experian, Equifax, Russia's National Credit Bureau, Cyprus' AulOtix and others)

Financial product providers (such as Santander UK, Deloitte, France's La Poste, BNP Paribas, and others)

Commercial partners (Stubhub, Apple, DHL, UK's Royal Mail, Bulgaria's TELUS, Facebook, and others)

Marketers and publicists (such as Salesforce, Edelman PR, Linkedln, Google, Poland's Clue PR, Pandora)

Operational service providers (Mailchimp, eBay Enterprise, Amazon Web Services, Salesforce, Google, and others)

Other commercial partners (such as several eBay units, Korea's M3 Mobile, Ireland's Kijiji International and Epinions)

Legal entities (Altep, Consilio, eTERA, Avansic, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd., Superior Review and others)

Government agencies (such as the European Consumer Centre Network, various data protection agencies in Europe)

And this is just the 'first level' sharing from PayPal. Your personal info can then can re-sold or shared by the second level companies (listed above) with even more companies. Even the large companies like FaceBook admit they have no idea what happens to your personal info after they sell it to others and it gets passed through a number of levels.

I acknowledge that my concern is driven by guilt; part of my careen embraced and furthered the collection of personal data. Back in the early 1990s this kind of data collection was more benign. For example, I participated in grocery stores gathering buying trends with their 'preferred customer' membership plans. The store would use this data in various way including targeting coupons to buyers who had a history with those products.

But like a lot of technology, the use and selling of our information quickly moved far beyond the existing ethics and laws in our society. In my opinion we still have not yet caught up.

And I know for a fact that Salesforce had a massive data breach not long ago because my personal info was stolen.

Good information, fellows.

These data breaches have impacted millions of Americans over the past few years...

They have affected my wife and I twice over the past ten years or so. Monitoring is a good idea - we always sign up for it...

That having been said, one should also point out that "personal" liability is minimal - if one reports unauthorized activity in a timely manner. What is it? Responsible for $50 max in case of a credit card?

Not to make light of identity theft, because it is a serious matter. But, these crooks have impacted most of us, one way or another...

The OP asked about tracking their collection online.

Perhaps, just perhaps, we could assume that the average SCF member has enough common sense to realize that there is some risk to all online activity?

So now you think that I do not moderate the forum well because I do not think that folks here have much common sense?

The point of my post was that your promotion of a website as being 'total free' may not be the case and folks should be aware. I suggest that you reconsider pushing back on this issue and move on.

Don, I apologize if you think I offended you. There was honestly no such intention...

I am moving on - thank you.

stlspidey - May I ask what Country or Countries you collect? Is it WW in nature? Would Excel or similar not work for you? Do you want to inventory your stamps or just have a want list of what you do not have?
