Here is a common 6 cent - Scott 460 "Transportation" stamp. I use one of my UV lamps [ shown below ] to check tagging.Just for fun, once in a while I use the UV lamp on the back of the stamp.
I was stunned to find out my UV lamp showed an overlap of 4 stamps on the back.I have no idea what I was looking at.
Tagging on used stamps can be dicey; surface taggants can transfer and wash/rub off. Folks who use 'drop or two' of some dishwashing liquids (those which contain 'brightens to make the dished look cleaner) when they soak stamps can add UV glow to stamps that did not have it. Don
Don is correct. Tagging anomalies usually mean nothing on used, soaked stamps. If they are still on cover it could be different though. On Robert's example it is clear what is going on!
Ya Don is correct Peter. How many times have collectors soaked off stamps. Hopefully no collector will soak stamps off covers. If a stamp is semi rare I will not soak stamps off paper pieces such as the stamp below...Newfoundland Tilt Cove stamp [ population 4 ]
