For
gettinold and all, I'm bumping a never-answered question from a locked thread.
gettinold showed the item at left and asked if it could possibly be genuine. The item at right is from

Do not take the size difference as gospel.
gettinold was correct to be suspicious of the left item, which is indeed a forgery. The brownish paper was never used for the genuine, though there are several different paper types.
The even printing is also suspicious. The genuine was printed by typography, usually badly, with a mottled background and ink blobs on the frame lines. There are clear prints, but the printers were having their problems. The genuine comes in several shades including a blue green.
Major obvious differences indicated include:
- In the genuine, the dots around the central design are round beads that are close together, instead of widely spaced dots.
- In the genuine, the sun rays are only white (unprinted) lines, not a white area broken by colored/printed lines
- In the genuine, the ribcage is a white roughly oval shape outlined at the bottom
There are differences in the genuine stamps due to there being 4 different cliches for each value in the issue. So, plating is the true check for genuineness.
