I'm considering picking up a copy of the Gibbons catalog for Austria and Hungary. My only experience with Gibbons catalogs is the Commonwealth 1840-1970 and a couple of the GB specialized volumes.
Compared to Scott, does Gibbons provide more depth? I'm most interested in info on shades and perf varieties.
Compared with Scott, every catalog offers more depth (for non-USA, that is). I would strongly recommend Michel over SG for the region however, continental Europe is generally standardized on Michel the way Commonwealth is for SG and USA for Scott.
Lots of ways you can go for specialized catalogs, of course.
I recently bought an older copy and if you are keen (as I am!) on perf and watermark varieties it definitely fits the bill! Great value for a low price. Regards DavidR
