Scott #'s 3269-3272 are missing in both my 1999 and 2018 Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue with no comment.

I came across this stamp in a mixed lot I got recently that came up with number 3271 on one site.

Does anyone know the backstory of why these numbers are omitted and what the stamp I have is?

It is Scott 3721, the initial stamp from a set of 10 stamps issued in 1970 (3721-3730)

Your stamp is Scott 3721.

PS: I did take a look at why 3269-72 are missing from Scott and I do not know. The four stamps issued between 3268 and 3273 are in Michel.

Thank you both, just reinforced my conviction that I shouldn't be writing posts when I'm tired. Too easy to transpose numbers and other similar mistakes.

I found the following:

1) What would have been Scott 3269 if listing by chronological issue date is actually Scott 3191A, Michel 3291

2) What would have been Scott 3270 if listing by chronological issue date is actually Scott 3256, Michel 3292

3) What would have been Scott 3271 if listing by chronological issue date is actually Scott 3256A, Michel 3293

4) What would have been Scott 3272 if listing by chronological issue date is actually Scott 3255, Michel 3294

I noticed a couple of stamps that had higher Michel numbers for earlier issues. Hence my suggestion. Maybe, these were thought to have been issued later. When the actual, earlier date became known, maybe Scott relisted them and Michel did not. But that is just guessing.

To me, it looks as though Scott reserved a block of numbers (3257-3272) for the 1966 definitive series. The series was ended after only 12 stamps, leaving the remaining numbers (3269-3272) as unassigned.
