I will have new page in my WW collection as of tonight ,

Barbados was a British Colony until 1966 ,when it became a Independent country ,now it will not be under the Crown and will be called the Republic of BARBADOS. Waiting for the first postage stamp .

Makes one wonder what stamps the folks of Barbados have been using all this time?

Loved the free Beach Beer at the airport in transit to Petit Saint Vincent.

But presumably Barbados will not leave the British Commonwealth which already ha a member republic - the Republic of South Africa. And the Queen is head of the commonwealth.

I'd hazard a guess that most of the countries in the Commonwealth are republics. Some have no historic relationship with Britain.

It could be argued that much of modern Britain has no historic relationship with the Britain of the Commonwealth. For another forum, I'm sure.

Same country, other form of government. At best the inscription changes.

Unless there is a name change, I doubt we will see a new Scott number 1 stamp. I do not collect modern but did check Scott and appears Barbados had a fairly conservative stamp issuing policy.

I signed up for new issues from the Barbados Post Office back in 2000, and have been very satisfied with their service. Not a lot of "wallpaper" stamps, so my account deposits last many years. Each set of stamps comes with a nice tri-fold brochure describing the topics, printing methods and printers, etc. Very worthwhile to me.
