Town named by Christopher "Chris" Troyer, a young man of the district, who came in May 1882. He had spent a winter in Alameda California. He suggested the Post Office bear this name, and so it became. He was in competition with James Walsh for the Post Master position. Troyer got the name; Walsh got the Post Office.

Well it was mailed June 4,1903 from Winnipeg and it was addressed to Alamedia so it really does not appear to be missent, more along the lines of impropery addressed. Obviously received in Alamedia on June 5th but when they probably did not know or locate the adressee they realised they probably meant USA or California which they penned in on the end. Notice the different ink/pen. Then on June 6th they postmarked it again on front and sent it on its way to the proper address, which appears to have arrived on June 12.

It is interesting the Assainaboia date cancellation itself. The postmaster installed date stamp upside down in all its uses. Maybe he had dislexia.

My take:

The dipped pen runs low of ink during "Miss Nellie" and is re-dipped to complete the address, again running low, even lower by the time it completes the "Calif". Note the "C" of Clark and Calif have the same initial loop, open-loop to the L's.

I agree with the original interpretation that it was misdirected to the Alameda most familiar to the clerk, then sent on to the proper one in California.

John Becker, point well taken as I see what you have pointed out. So "Calif"ornia was written in originally. When I looked at it again, I see the ink, or should I say lack of it resemblance especially in the in the "lle" part of the name Nellie.
