Inherited Collection. Newbie And Needing Help!

Hello from Florida! I have started sorting through an inherited stamp collection. Collection (my grandfathers) sat in a closet for 60 years or so. Since I am not a collector I will be interested in liquidating the collection. The American stamps are mid to late 1800's and stop about 1928 or so. The world stamps start around 1850 and go until the 30's or so. I have spent about a month studying the collection and gathering as much data on my own as I can. I have a perf tool and some watermark solution that I have become at least comfortable with. Almost all of the collection is hinged. It is thousands of stamps. I believe I'm at the point where I could use some experienced advice on stamp handling and condition issues. I know some of the MH stamps in the Vernon Album (Zeppelins) are desirable and nice. Hello JoJo and welcome to the forum. I want to caution you that buying/selling is not permitted until you get a certain number of posts (50 I believe), so keep those pictures coming. I'd suggest showing the oldest / best ones in your opinion, and providing Scans, not photos, if at all possible. We love to give you our opinions (both expert and not ...)

Ok a few quick questions. Can I download photos from a Mac? When someone says they "scanned" in photos, is that literally with a printer/scanner? What is the best way to get photos to the forum community?

For images of stamps, yes, use a scanner. Photographs will not show good detail and often have an angle or light issue, unless you have very good equipment.

Ok figured out the scanning method. Hope it works. This is just to give an idea of how the collection looks. I'll figure out the right forum for questions. My grandfather hinged a load of stamps in these blocks of four, I believe he just liked the looks of it. He was a postmaster I think at Narberth Pa.

Well those are some very nice looking stamps. Next question, are they in mounts? Are the backs pristine, or were they at one time mounted using stamp hinges.

According to the 2021 SCott US Specialized catalog, C1 color comes in an orange (C1) and a pale orange (C1a)

The OP's block is orange (C1)
Casey Magoo's block is the pale orange (C1a)


JoJo3391 - I would advise you to be very careful handling those stamp multiples. Given their reported age range,the perforations tend to be very fragile, especially those perforated 12; they tend to separate easily, which greatly reduces the value of the multiple.

Here's a few more scans. The Farley 3 cent 1936 3rd international philatelic exhibition 4 stamp commemorative he has 102 copies of! Perfect glue never hinged. I know they aren't worth much but I guess he liked them.

The OP's block is badly oxidized.

Very nice items so far. Even if badly oxidized, there are tricks to bring them back to a nice color. More on this later, but keep posting your items. Looking very good.
