Received this bell and notification.

The top one is likely just a standard Win10 update to fix security issues, bugs, etc. A minor update.

The second one is to update to a newer version of Win10 with a few newer features. A major update, but still Win10.

The warning at the bottom is to let you know that your computer doesn't meet the minimums for Win11. It is not an update to Win11. You might eventually see that as an option, so do be careful to read the descriptions below the updates to make sure you're not updating to Win11.

The Windows update is being advertised as Windows 11. From the demos on youtube, it is more a GUI ease of use update so will likely need to relearn where they moved aspects.

Microsoft supposedly has strict Windows 11 hardware requirements but reports claim recent computers should work without any issue. Mine meets the requirements.

I have installed the security fixes but will not upgrade for a while. Of course, I could have lived with Win 7 but admit the later Win 10 versions were a nice upgrade for wireless, booth tooth, and some personalization features.

Yes, I am a Win7 admirer, still employ it on my main computer.

There are links to Update to Win11 free, from some major IT sources,
but too involved for me.
Happy with Win10 ne'er an issue thus far.

I recently switched to Win11.
I don't know what is under the hood but they changed the GUI (graphical user interface) so you have to hunt a while to see where everything is. There are some things I don't use that I can't find how to unpin from the taskbar ("Widgets" and chat).
My biggest annoyance is that everything defaults to a MS program so you have to switch everything if you don't use their programs. (e.g. Adobe and Firefox)
A typical Windows "upgrade."

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.

Fact of life, technology evolves quickly and this includes operating systems. Another fact of life, humans dislike change. Obviously these two facts of life are in opposition to each other and creates an opportunity to become frustrated. But while this might be frustrating, it would be much more frustrating if technology never changed.

One of the three guarantees in life. Humans aren't too keen on the other two either!

I switched to Linux years ago. Best IT move I ever made.

I'll stick with WIN7. Recently, Comcast announced that their email servers were no longer going to support TLS1 and 1.2, both of which are supported by WIN7. Starting March 31, only TLS1.2 will be supported by Comcast. That left us with five options:

1 - upgrade to WIN10 and Office2016 = $$ for one-time purchases to own
2 - buy a whole new computer running WIN11 and Office 365 - both are annual subscription services (aka "Microsoft income streams") = non-starter
3 - edit the WIN7 registry to enable TLS1.2, which is included with but not activated in WIN7 = 5 minutes and $40 of technician time
4 - Keep WIN7 but abandon Outlook2010 and just log into the Comcast server every time we want to check email (using our computer); iphones worked OK as is.
5. Keep WIN7 but get a new email program that supports TLS1.2 = new learning curve for us old folks.

We took option 3.

A one-off payment for Windows 11 with bits is around £85 here - I presume it may well be cheaper in the US.
