Wooden Post Cards I Have

Post cards have been made from all kinds of things.
Here are some I have in wood. (let's see some others)

First is an ad for redwood shingles, on a redwood shingle . This was from the PPIE in 1915 sent to one of my relatives.

Hand cancel is San Francisco, Cal

Not sure where the display/demonstration was setup.



The Sumner Iron Works produced a wide variety of equipment including sawmill, marine, shingle, cannery, and mining machinery. The majority of the plant's work was dedicated to the lumber industry.

Building with redwood was a big deal after the 1906 earthquake and fire.

Interesting conservation challenge, the acids in the wood begin toning/damaging the stamps quickly (note toning starting on the 1991 stamps).

I would keep these wooden postcards away from my other paper collectables.

I had a wooden postcard sent to my Dad in the '80s with a single great American stamp (forgot which one). It wasn't a vacation-type postcard. It was from a business associate on a plain piece of wood with the message "I have ideas stronger than this." I was an idiot when I first got into stamps as an adult and soaked it off. Probably my biggest philatelic regret - no amount of money or effort can replace it.

These are fascinating! Thanks for sharing. I have a piece of wooden "money" that's roughly the same size, but I didn't occur to me that postcards on wood might exist.
