Quote: but the over print is not correct. What overprint would that be please? I would think revenue use almost certainly. Has a red and black pen line across the stamp, and a green wavy line crayon. Was probably attached to some sort of printed paper. wiki Johore first issued revenues in 1904. From that year until 1922, of postage stamps showing Sultan Ibrahim were overprinted JUDICIAL for court use. These stamps are known with a number of different watermarks as they were in use for almost 20 years. At the same time, postage stamps were used for other non-judicial fiscal needs, and until the 1920s there were various postage stamps with high values that were intended for fiscal use only. Nice stamp to have! |

There are only two possible watermark options for this stamp. It is either a single Rosette, or Multiple Script CA (MSCA). The Rosette watermark would make it SG 77, Scott 75, and the MSCA watermark would make it SG 127, Scott 124. The two watermark options are shown below. Ignore the coloring of the Rosette watermark it is not blue, that is just what happens when you use a digital microscope to view the image. Try holding the stamp near a strong light when you check the watermark since you can't see it in the tray. Rosette Watermark Multiple Script CA |

Thank you all for your input. I watermarked this three time, held it under a bright light at all angles and finally scanned. Viola it's Scott #124. Revenue cancelled. I will scan first from now on. It does nor appear to have been adhered, or hinged. Any thought? Am I missing a tell tell sign? Thanks again. |

Possibility. Your postmark / cancellation is HRU From a double ring JOHORE BAHRU
Going by the ring arc, I'd suggest an elliptic / oval fiscal strike.

Does this change the Scott # or CV? I am not well versed in cancellations or fiscal stamps. Thank you. |

Catalogue values are ordinarily for postage stamps, rather than fiscal stamps, which this stamp has become. There's usually a significant discount on the catalogue price for a fiscally used stamp - the upside is that they become affordable to more collectors. |

Revenue stamps tend to sell for 10% of the catalog value, but it depends on where you try to sell it and how many people are interested. I would list it with an on-line auction if I had one and wanted to sell it.

You can see the crown pretty distinctly, so it is not the rosette watermark. |

Do you have black stamp mounts? With your stamp tongs, place stamp face down in a black stamp mount (better with a little longer strip) then shine a bright light through the back I use a tiny LED torch, and the Watermark should show rather nicely with these. Good Luck.

There is a good possibility that the RED LINE was a protection mark done by a private company to mark their stamps against thief . It was done with a ruler to make a clear red line and not something a clerk in the post office or court house would do . Same meaning as those rubber stamped markings used by companies . |
