Hi all,

Been a while since I've been on, haven't had a lot of time lately for my hobbies but now I have, a few items I need just to ask the questions on, marked in a stock book as printers waste?.

Looks to me like a poor forgery, any views

thanks

Jony - I would not dismiss these out of hand as modern creations. Learn more here:

All of these NB stamps were created for collectors and printers waste, imperfs and pre-cancels like the OP's stamps were sold to fill the market. Agree that better images would help.

I would agree with floortrader that these are modern crappy reproductions. The oval line is a bit flat in the two stamps. They are identical.I don't think you would have the same cliché defect and inking characteristics in the same sheet..?
Also the color is way off.

You have to wonder if they are fake why they copied stamps with a CTO postmark on them?
The CTO postmark makes me think they could be real, or the faker is not playing with a full deck of cards.
In any case, North Borneo was famous for producing a lot of "mistakes" and then selling them to collectors. It makes an interesting item, but hopefully you didn't pay too much for it.

KGVI Stamps ----It is Sunday morning and I am having my Costa Rician cup of coffee . So good time for a story .

Back in the early 1960's ,I had a paper route and got paid $20.00 a month for my work . I would mail 10 cents to get my 100 different worldwide stamps . When the stamps came in the mail they came with $3.00 or $4.00 worth of approvals .

These approval companies send stamps for 10 ,15 and 25 cents per glassine . The above North Boreno fake would be included for 15 cents or with a b.s. story about rarity and value for 25 cents each . Figure I purchased these ,let say for 15 cents with other stuff that I thought was a philatelic treasure and so did hundreds or thousands of other kids . They firm would of purchase full sheets for a buck ,so they are buying at two cent each and selling for 15 cents . The firm that printed and sold them for a buck maybe made those for 10 cents a sheet .

Everybody is happy ,the printer ,the stamp approval firm that sold to me ,and I am happy because I got a valuable treasure in my collection and so are thousands of other young stamp collectors .

Now you ask ,how do I feel about this ? Well I sold those fakes and forgeries on ebay as fakes at $3.00 or $4.00 each as fakes .......So I am happy drinking my Costa Rician coffee .

Floortrader - I remember getting those same offers in the 1950's and 60's, but the ones I got had East German and other CTO items that were still Mint. Are you saying your approval offers included this North Borneo item?

The Stanley Gibbons Catalogue actually prices the North Borneo CTO items. They are pretty cheap, but there are as many as five different perforations for some of the issues, so they can be interesting to sort. I buy cheap mixtures of CTO items and sell them on my website. The prices are low and some of my customers like buying them just to complete the set. I do identify them as CTO and sell them pretty cheaply.
