I assume this is pretty much the norm for this booklet pane…just looked at 4 #782a booklet panes and the yellow on the 2c (782b) is in 3 different placements

I've noticed color shifts on a lot of stamps but it funny what you see as a shift in the yellow to my eyes I see a shift in the Brown
The first pane seems normal to me but when I look at the second the CANADA and POSTAGE/POSTES are shifted down and to the right.
This shift can also be seen around the right two red peddles.

Cheers, Bill

Bill, I never even noticed that, but your right, on the bottom set of stamps the brown has certainly gone over the red peddles although it does not appear to have gone over anywhere else in the stamp. The bottom two stamps have still got white flowers at the bottom, as apposed to the yellow ones on the top two.
Thanks for your response
Robert

Me again, I've just noticed a general shift of the black print in the upper two…upwards
or maybe the bottom two downwards ?

Hi to both of you Robert and Bill. This little booklet was apparently printed with two separate processes. One process printed brown: for the background; red: petals; then yellow: pistil and stamen). Those three are printed first.
Then in one color pass, a different process, with one printing plate: 2c/postes/postage/CANADA/and all the outlines of the flower are printed on top of the other colors.(All these lines and numbers are always exactly the same distance apart but not in register with the red or yellow or brown.)

So I think you are somehow both right. The colors are not registered properly to start.
These booklets were not released on the announced release date, delayed by almost two months because of production problems. I think they gave up trying to get it right. These are fun to collect and can enhance a collection.

I found a couple of mis-registered 782s that will help explain what can happen if the printing is really out of register.
The first one shows good registration between the brown background, the red color and the yellow color but a very bad mis-registration with the rest.(the outlines and the numbers etc...)

The next picture shows bad mis-registration between the brown background (where you can see that there are non-printed areas for the other colors) and the red and yellow. The outlines and numbers seem to be in place.

You can actually measure how far the brown is far from the red or yellow. How far is the yellow from the red. You can measure how far they are all from the outlines.
This is what I find interesting with screw-ups; they help us understand what is normal and how difficult it is sometimes to make pictures look perfect on a little postage stamp.
