Hi. Thank you for your welcome. My Newspaper Wrapper is postmarked 1886. But according to my catalogue is was issued 1992. I hope someone familiar with NSW stationery wrappers can help me solve this mystery. Thanks
Svend

Hi Rod222. You are quite right. 1892 is the correct year.

Higging and Gage I cannot afford. I use instead SG specialised from year 1900 and Senf 1901. I of course admit their info could be wrong, but they have over the years proven to be very trustworthy.

There is a space between the 18 and the 86 suggesting two 2-digit slugs, as well as the 8's not matching. Could the 86 slug be inverted, and thus an 1898 use?

Hi Svend,

The newspaper wrapper was issued in 1892.

John Becker is correct. The date slugs have been inverted.

The good news is that this is the earliest known date of this handstamp!

Hope this info helps

Hi Bobby,
what catalogue are you using?
Is that the earliest known "SHIP MAIL ROOM" hammer? or?

My Aussie postal stationery Catalogue only begins at 1911
I cannot afford BW.

I see Australia's newspaper wrappers, began in 1864
second only to the United States.

Nicely picked up, I failed to notice that.

Hi Rod,

I used Higgins & Gage for the wrapper, but Hutson and Basset-Hull would have this information also.

I used White for the handstamp.

Hi to all, and thank you for your very helpful contributions. I am convinced that the last two digits in the year are inverted.

I present the full wrapper at

Have a look
