I just picked up this cover and await its arrival. Rare as hens' teeth with only one recorded sale that I can find in a Cherrystone 2008 auction. I am thrilled. It had been in the zeppelin cover collection of a 93-year-old man in Switzerland where it sat for many decades.
RXC - Yes, it is one of the covers. The two I had missed initially were virtually identical which is amazing given the rarity of even one cover with a full set of C53-7. Add in the destination, dates and zeppelin transit and you have a showpiece. I chose this one of the two because it was just over half the price of the first. This happened I think because this cover did not have an image or clear description in the catalog. Not enough to spend money on. Just prior to auction I noticed that an image had been added to Rolli's website for this item and tried to swoop in on it. That is when my bidding went off the rails. Thankfully after the winning bidder could not complete the transaction I was offered it at one increment below the winning bid which was very low for this item to start with.
So, to get to Recife this cover would have been carried by regular airmail from Moscow to Berlin, then again by regular airmail from Berlin to Friedrichshafen where it would have been put on the Graf Zeppelin on its 11th flight to South America of 1934 landing in Recife?
