Ah, the days when north-east England had industrial jobs. Built by Dorman Long of Middlesbrough - basically uses the design from the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle.

No offense, finches, but I thought I was clicking through to wish you a Happy Birthday.

So, umm, never mind.

Geoff it's a common misconception that the Tyne bridge in Newcastle is the same design as Sydney harbour bridge it isn't they are visually similar but all the thrusts of the Tyne bridge are taken up by the base of the towers by a pivot. this isn't the case with the Sydney Bridge. They were both constructed by the same company and some of the workers on The Tyne bridge did go on to do work building the sydney harbour bridge. Of course the Tyne bridge we should be interested in is a few hundred yards downstream, because the Millenium bridge a.k.a. the Blinking eye features on a GB postage stamp SG2149. Perhaps the Tyne bridge might feature on a stamp one day either it's hundredth birthday in 2028, or a set of stamps showing the Tyne bridges.
