Wondering what your thoughts are on this stamp. Seller has it listed for $899, what would be a fair price to pay for this? I've done a fair amount of business with this dealer so I don't want to make a low ball offer, just a fair price.

I think it is a very attractive stamp. I can however not give you any kind of estimate. Sorry!

Peter

I am not thrilled with the left perfs; also not at all happy that the left perfs and the right perfs match locations exactly.

Rev I also noticed that when I straight line the inside of the perf circles they seam slightly wavey. Could that be just a wobbly perf wheel or suggest it's not complete or perhaps a proof turned to a stamp?

I think it is probably a real stamp, but that it has been reperforated on that side.

I agree, the left side perfs look very suspect.

Why not let the seller submit it, then you agree to a price/offer of $xxx.xx if it comes back fully good? See if he squirms at the suggestion.

Took a closer look at the stamp on ebay using the "Hover" tool and conclude that the left and bottom are reperforated. That is likely why there is no cert. It could very well have had one that is now "lost". It would take more $$$ but these are always coming to auction and even Stu Katz has one for sale for $1,099 that has a PF cert. Why even bother with gambling or handshake cert agreements when you could get a 122 and have peace of mind. You may think that you are saving a few hundred dollars but are you really. Your call of course. Just food for thought.

You guys have really come through for me this time. I agree completely, I don't want just any 122 I want a good 122. Knowing what I know now I am going to pass on this one. I think my time on ebay is also coming to a close as far as buying so much. You guys know I've just started with philately and jumped in head first but I believe I could make mistakes that could sour it for me if I keep going the route I am. One of our stamp club local members puts things in auction in Delaware every other month, perhaps I'll go for the ride and experience a true stamp auction next month. He is a fine fellow and at the young age of 93 this 40 year old could certainly learn a lot. He's always talking about the good old days at the chapter 18 meetings in philly..Makes me excited to be with him. Thank all of you for looking out for me!

The left side definitely looks reperfed - the spacing between each 'hole' varies greatly from top to bottom. This is the type of stamp that should have, at some point, been sent in for a cert. I would bet if you scoured the PF database, you would find it. Or.... go find another that comes with a cert. Although a good chunk of change, this stamp comes up for sale all the time at auction. Every 122 should have a cert - it is valuable enough, and subject to shenanigans enough, that the peace of mind a cert would bring would be worth more than the cost of the cert.

Top perfs also have that halo effect where fresh white paper was exposed. Definitely reperfed at left, possibly played with top. Where there's smoke, there is fire.

This place delivers.

There is always another stamp. Go slow. It's never an emergency.
