Hi,

I came across this stamp, and was unable to identify it.

It looks Japanese in script, design, and denomination, yet I've been unable to find it in my Scott catalogue.

The script in the upper right corner looks Japanese, but not quite like what the Japanese country name usually looks like.

It looks very similar in design to the Japanese stamps of the late 1930s through 1950s.

The denomination, with the the zeros underlined looks very similar to how Japanese stamps represented double zeros in the late 1940s to early 1950s.

This makes me wonder if it's a revenue stamp, but it doesn't look like one I've ever seen.

Any ideas?

Thank you vayolene!

I should've thought of that...just never made the connection, as most Ryukyu stamps have the name in English on them.

Looks like it is Scott Number 26, in the Ryukyu Islands section. And it's actually 100 yen, not 1.00.
Scott CV in my 2019 US Specialized is $5 used, though looks like the perforations are cut on the sides, so it's worth a bit less.

Nope, it's the 1.00 yen red, not the 100 yen claret. The illustration in my Scott is your stamp and there are alternate designs for the rest.

Oops, you're totally right!
It is the 1 yen stamp! Scanning through the listing I saw the 100 yen was claret (reddish) and the stamp was red, and the description of the 100 yen stamp said "Stone Bridge, Hosho Pond, Enkaku Temple", and the stamp looked to have a bridge on it...so I jumped to conclusions.
That's disappointing, but I guess the product of wishful thinking.

Looks like it's Scott number 19, with a CV of 0.30, so basically minimum value. Nevertheless, not a stamp I remember seeing before, and Ryukyu Island stamps themselves don't seem very easy to find in world-wide mixed lots.
