can anyone tell me what the "6" means in each of the side circles? I have a SG Commonwealth & British Empire catalog, but dont see anything. Tks

thats what I guessed. but the catalog says all Stamps from no. 75 to 163 have the plate no. in the design.

Duh, I thought they were referring to the stamp no. and not the SG no.

Im going to take a nap - this covid booster is killing me. Thank you

clangers can be looked upon in humour
we all make them.

I once asked for an ID on an Italian "postage Due"
the stamp was actually a postage stamp with a value of 2 Lira

...and was politely corrected by a gentleman at an auction
sitting next to me, that the lot I was excited about, was cut outs from a magazine.

I'd say it's rose.

Most likely the stamp is found in both shades for each plate. This negates repeating the plate number information twice for each shade.

Plate 6 is SG 103, issued in 1870.
