Hi everyone.
I'm just getting back into stamps and acquired an number of albums.
In checking the contents, I've found a few horizontal strips where the printed frames are misaligned by a fair amount, even though the perforations are in line.
I wondered how common this is.
Sorry to say that I tried to post photos of these, but have technical issues, and working on it, so hoping my description will be enough for a reply.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, and welcome. It would help a bit if you gave a description of the stamps. Like are they sheetstamps, coils or what?
Modern coils are usually printed on a rotary press because of the length of the rolls. Where one plate ends and another starts is where the mis-alignment is happening. Or, if there is just one plate, where one revolution of the press ends and the next one starts is usually also a alignment problem. But that is basically OK - most folks just use one stamp on a letter

Hi Peter,
Thanks for that.
The misalignment was between a pair of Australian 1/2d orange kangaroos. Odd that it should be THIS pair, as not on all others I have, but I guess that's why it seemed to stand out. A previous owner for another album had noted another occurrence on a coil pair of a different country, so that's when I began to take notice.
So, is this common, or are they worth keeping as a variety?
I'm still trying to overcome problems with uploading images, but will when I can. Thanks

Oh wow!
This is great information showing how these things occur.
I'll put these ones aside in my "specials" album.
Itma,
Thanks so much for your reply to my post.
Finches,
so true…

The rotary coil plate misalignment as was explained above is collectible as showing the inherent issues with actual stamp production on the printing press.

When the sideographer misaligns a design entry without correcting such misalignment on the printing plate, his sloppy work is just as collectible as any plate variety (short transfers, reentries, double, triple or more transfers, cracks, scratches, layout dots and lines, etc.) chased by collectors. In those cases, a single is not deterministic of the misalignment, a pair shows the misalignment but not which is misaligned, a strip of three or more or a block of four or more will reveal which design was mis-entered.

A nice find you have.

Parcel post guy, this is just amazing to hear.
Thanks so much for that.
I remember of another one somewhere in my albums to chase up up and will post when I find it.
I ask myself, " Why have I left it so long to pick up where I left off in stamp collecting? "
So much yet to go through, and my wife suggests that my hobby might become my mistress.
