Ribbing would cover the full stamp, except where deformed by the embossing... |

In all my years collecting, I do not recall ever identifying "ribbed paper" I have read all the SCF threads. One day, I guess.

Rod22, with regard to the 1865 Munich 'return to sender' seal you show above, I have the same item but inscribed 'HAMBERG' (note the spelling!). Do you happen to know if these were issued by other cities? Regards DavidR |

Hi. It is Bamberg,not Hamberg Here is one from Würzburg Similar seals were issued in three more Bavarian towns ( Augsburg,Nürnberg and Speyer),according to Michel catalogue  |

Here is a page from "Bayern Spezialkatalog Volume 2" by Peter Sem. It lists 6 towns for this style. Maybe your stamp is Bamberg?  |
