The image is of a French 1f claret & olive green Liberty & Peace issue of 1900, Scott 125.
My question concerns the cds on the stamp. I have a vague memory of the 'MB' meaning 'mobile box' but that's where my brain waves end. Note that the cancel mentions both 'France' and, across the Pond, 'Southampton.'

Can anyone shed any light on this marking. If its special, I suppose I'll keep the stamp in spite of its horizontal crease. If not, than it goes into the damaged stamps receptacle.

Thank you, that's a very helpful website! Under the circumstances, I'm surprised the 'M' doesn't stand for 'maritime,' but my (vague) memory aligns more with the term you used.

Neat article, Rod, thanks for posting it !

And no need to 'Eeek' LOL. I have an old brown Scott International 1840-1900 bound album I bought a few years back that was unused, and I've reserved that for SON, fancy cancels, and the like. Generally, I avoid putting damaged stamps into any of my albums but this cancel is so cool (and totally new to me) that its already found a home in there.
