I'm sorry about the blurry photo but it says $50. It's really messy and I just wanted to get some feed back about it. Is it an overprint?
Thanks for your time and experience...chery

Hi Chery,
it is a waxy cancellation on a postage stamp indicating revenue usage, used on documentation.
(Not my stamps)

Regularly found on STRAITS SETTLEMENTS high values
some of the embossed cancels include the text SINGAPORE

Wow, this is a Straits Settlements stamp and pretty valuable...you are good! I wasn't sure when I looked up the value if it was canceled or an overprint... which of course make a huge difference in value.
So, when you say "waxy", what do you mean, exactly, and why is it blood red?
Thank you again...chery

Hi Chery,
not sure myself. They fascinated me when I first came across them,
The red ink in some (Not all) comes as a rather THICK shiny resin type ink,
in the hands of learners (myself at the time) the ink can actually crack,
like wax seals.

I have not seen any reference to these in any Philatelic press, so the solution is not identified.

I was sure I had a monograph explaining GB embossed revenues,
but searches of my database came up empty handed.

There is something about the way these were applied, Hand Press?
Perhaps some specialist here on SCF can explain.

To tie together you two recent threads cherytwist, this and that ( https://goscf.com/t/81467 ), if you found a pair of stamp off the document as in rod222's post immediately above, you would rather keep the cancellation as intact as possible, thus not breaking the pair as shown. Same would apply for such cancels and a block of three, four or more.

You know, I wasn't even considering the cancelation and it just makes sense. The cancelation tells the story. Thanks so much for your help...chery
