I believe the crown CDS postmark was used in London on unpaid letters.

Interesting.
These two are entirely new to me, cannot find them anywhere.
What may be the "B Y" either side of the crown?

Only Unpaid Crowns I can find have "FREE" in the design.

We need Ron or Eunice Shanahan to have a bo-peep at these.

Is that not a US receiving Pmk?

The "Arabia" collided with the "Europa" in August of 1858
Climate change?
The "Arabia" burnt 120 tons of coal per day.

It was a letter from Union bank of London to New York. Crown cancels are usually associated with Royalties. Hence my question.

nigelc is correct.

Stamped in black for unpaid. Stamped in red for paid.

The code letters (BY in this case) are the handstamp and the date code respectively.

See 'London Date Stamp Codes' here for more information:

Well done Bobby, Nigel
Not identified in GB Postmarks catalogue.

Saw "Py" on another, which was for Penny Post
This, then threw me.
