Hi Rod & Don: Not my area of expertise but if I had to guess I'd say it was a regular postage stamp added to a cheque (to show that a fee had been paid), and the handstamp indicates a bank in Toronto, likely the Imperial Bank of Canada. The "No Protest" is seen on these types of cancellations and indicates "Instructions given to a collecting bank not to protest a specific item in the event of non payment or non acceptance."
