Here are some pictures I took a few weeks ago of the beautiful, historic, Ottawa Post Office, at the corner of Elgin St. and Sparks St. It was built in 1939. I work across the street, and this is what I get to look at each day...
The main entrance on the corner...

The side entrance...

All around the building and at the side of either door, is the Imperial Lions holding various shields. The lions stand about 2.5 metres high, without their pedestals! This shield shows the Maple Leaves (our national emblem) surmounted by the Crown.

This shield shows the Arms of Canada.

This shield shows the Crown atop St. George's Cross.

This one shows the Arms of Great Britain (one of the two founding nations of Canada).

This one shows the Arms of France (one of the two founding nations of Canada).

Lastly, this one shows the Royal Cypher of HLM King George VI... GVIR...

The one thing about living in Ottawa, is you're surrounded by history in the nation's capital. Next set of pictures (in a few week's time) I'll take of the inside of the post office.
