When I first started to collect stamps I bought two sheets of Ajman stamps. My question is, were these stamps used for postage or are they just CTO's?

If I recall correctly, Ajman is another one of those "sand dune" countries, that issued stamps with the help of an agent, mostly just for the collector market. You are not likely to ever find one that has actually been used for postage.

I agree with Allen, there have been some on cover, but extremely rare and maybe philatelically contrived. I still collect them though :) Where else are you going to see the Sistine Chapel like this? |

Couldn't agree more - I've got a set of roses that couldn't have been cancelled more neatly...! |

I find it very interesting that Arabian countries produce stamps with Christian art work. |

What?! some Ajman roses that I don't have. how did that happen Nice ones GS, I'll have to keep an eye out in the Chinese stock books. If one is a Flower fancier, I should think stamp collecting would be marvelous. If any one knows if there is such a thing as a "Stanley Gibbons" rose I'd like to know. here are my Ajman Roses |

Quote: I find it very interesting that Arabian countries produce stamps with Christian art work. There is a long and sordid story behind these labels Ray, They are not stamps, they did not carry postage, but they are still linked to philately. I think Ryan of this group posted something about the following chap (the head of Stanley Gibbons) Read about him a little here with Tuvalu, Nagaland etc etc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clive_Feigenbaum |

That makes a very interesting read BeeSee, thanks. There is one notable error in the piece, if you search for the text string "1890"

scb,
I have a sheet just like that myself. What I noticed about those soldiers is that one is always blacked out. |
