I've been sorting through some stamped envelopes and cut squares and I came across this odd looking one. I'm only seeing the 2c appearing in violet and its variations and do not see any reference to a "gray" 2c from the 1893 issue. If you look at the image closely around the "1892" you can see a faint violet hue. Wondering if it's a color changeling or a misprint. Also, would this be from Die 95C? Any insight would be very much appreciated.

(Full disclosure: It's possible I will put this and others up on Ebay as this isn't one of the areas I collect).

Regards,
Harper1249

There is a Die 95C that is mistakenly printed in dark slate and is an error of color but your item is a changeling. Difficult to say weather environmental factors or deliberate intervention is responsible for the change in color but even the paper has been affected.
