Among some stamps I recently acquired is this one, identified by an unknown previous owner as Scott US #15. From the catalog, I see that the difference between #14 and #15 depends on whether or not the outer lines are broken above the top label and the "X" numerals. To me it looks more like #14, but I don't want to override a previous identification without some other evidence.

Please chime in with your opinions.

Unfortunately, because the design is incomplete at sides, it appears to be a #35 with perforations trimmed off on all sides.

Tipzi, I was thinking the same thing. But I didn't see any obvious perf hole remnants, so I assumed I was probably wrong.

Yes, trimmed #35. The absence of the three complete pearls at each side of the large plumed at bottom is a dead giveaway. In addition, the heavy bottom line and the blur in the bottom margin are also telling.

Thank you for the replies. This was part of a small group that I was given by someone who buys box lots at auction. It didn't cost me anything, so I have lost nothing and gained some knowledge.
