Greetings all. I was wondering how best to describe whats going on with this impression. The faint impression is shifted left about 4mm and there doesn't appear to be any vertical shift. Would it be considered a double impression or something else?

Regards,
Harper1249

These stamps were offset printed. Sometimes the plate was not well cleaned, and printings such as this was the result. They were also printed using a rubber blanket, so sometime there was some "bounce" to the printings which could also result in an extra impression.

It should always be remembered that the general attitude about revenue stamps is that only lawyers and accountants were likely to see them anyway, and not the general public. So the BEP tended to be fairly lax about their printing. This is for the documentary type stamps, of course. Taxpaids were much more likely to be seen by everyone.

Thanks for looking at it revcollector. I figured it was something related to the offset printing method.
